The Samsung i320N – Making Convergence Look Good

Convergence means the ‘coming together’ of disparate ideas and functions, which in the field of mobile technology means the ability of one device such as a cell phone, to perform multiple tasks and prevent consumers from needing to carry multiple gadgets at once. More and more is this concept catching on when it comes to communication and entertainment devices; for while cell phones ten years ago were just phones with a texting function, today they are cameras, mp3 players, games machines, word processors and web browsers – ending the need for multiple platforms. Unfortunately however most of these ‘smart phones’ are incredibly bulky to make room for all the additional features meaning that many of the general public steer clear of them when they want to buy cell phone replacements. Fortunately Samsung have taken this into consideration and packed all that functionality into an ergonomically designed slim phone.
The Samsung i320N is a state-of-the-art pda cell phone that has everything you need in one neat package. Obviously it serves as a highly functional cell phone from industry experts Samsung, but it’s also so much more. The first thing that will strike you about the design of the phone is its QWERTY keyboard. Here ‘QWERTY’ refers to the first six keys on most keyboard layouts meaning that you’ve got a full alphabetical keyboard just like the one on your computer. This means faster typing for texts, e-mails and documents if you so with.
And with the i320N, like several other popular ‘smart phones’, you get the full compliment of productivity programmes which come with the Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Operating System allowing you to view and edit documents and presentations on the move. This means more productivity on the move and the phone is highly popular with commuters as a result meaning they don’t have to get out their laptop to start work. Along with these applications is software for web browsing and e-mail, here the cell phone wireless connection will allow you to check your messages on the go or download important files – and thanks to ‘object push’ you’ll get automatic updates when you receive new e-mails, just like getting a text! Thanks to the developer friendly OS, it’s also possible to download a whole host of other applications for almost any purpose so tailoring your phone perfectly for your needs. This is also made possible by the option to buy cell phone accessories such as microSD cards to expand the memory.
But as is the spirit of convergence, the i320N doesn’t only offer productivity options – it also provides media, entertainment and creative options at your finger tips. Notable are the 1.3 mega-pixel camera which means you’ll always have a camera on you to capture unexpected photo-ops, and the large 2.2 inch LCD screen which will allow you to watch movies and view your pictures.
Unlike other pda cell phones, the Samsung i320N makes convergence look good with its ultra slim design and light feel (the phone is only 32 grams). If you want to have all the latest features while leaving room in your pocket for your keys then, this may well be the phone for you and hopefully the market will see more like it soon.
